Children at the time of their admission
At
present, there are over 570 children, of both the sexes, of different
backgrounds, with age ranges from 4 to 18 years old, studying in
the Kindergarten to Secondary level. Of these 380 students who are boarding in
the school hostel are destitute, underprivileged, orphans or semi-orphans,
refugees, displaced, physically disabled, street children and are
vulnerable to various forms of child abuses like child labour, trafficking,
addictions etc. While giving the importance of gender equation,
we focus more on the issues of girl child because of their vulnerabilities.

Of
these 70% comes from the remote and inaccessible hilly and mountainous
northern regions of Mustang, Dolpa, Humla, Langtang, Solukhumbu
etc, 20% comes from the plains of Tarai regions of south-west and
about 10% of them from the mean streets of Kathmandu city. Majority
of them are sharing the similar background of various hardships
and deprivations due to the poverty and lack of access to the government
services, who, otherwise, cannot dream of getting an opportunity
to go to school, have a decent meal, protections, clothes and shelter
before they came here. Most of them were under or severely mal-nourished
on their arrival here. Majority of them are orphans or semi-orphans
and from broken families with symptoms of physical and mental abnormalities
in some cases.

Thanks to the
support and generosity of the individual donors, sponsors and funding
associations, these children are now enjoying the opportunity to
grow up, like a normal children, in the right environment, where
all their basic needs are being well taken care of by the Academy,
under the convention of UNO’s Child Rights.
