If the children fails to perform the minimum standard of passing
the class VIII, we offer them the opportunity to get themselves
trained in the skills of carpentry and electrician for the boys
and tailoring for the girls in our own vocational training
within the school compound. Currently there are 40 parttime and 7 fulltime trainees,
which are funded by the Trans Himalayan Aid, Canada.

We
are networking with the various prospective factories and centre
for fixing a suitable job once they finish their three year’s
training or encourage and help them set up their own small workshops
on the case by case basis. This is a very useful alternative source
of education, which is very relevant to the backgrounds of our students
here.
SOME
SUCCESS STORIES RELATING TO THE EX-TRAINEES:
-
Mr Santosh Yadav, a post-polio paralysis case,
having successfully completed the three years’ training
programme in tailoring from our school, between the period of
year 1993-96, got a job as tailoring trainer in one of the small
local NGO at Pashupatinath (a holiest site of Hindus) in Kathmandu.
He is now married and father of a child. While continuing with
this job, he has also set up a small scale NGO of his own; giving
crash trainings in stitching and tailoring to the poor and deprived
youths. He is indeed doing very well.
-
Mr
Shyam Babu and Mr Pema Lama after successfully completed
their three years’ carpentry training under our vocational
training programmes have now been employed in one of the biggest
and famous furniture company in the whole of Nepal. They are
picking up new and more advanced carpentry skills with new innovation
and technology. Shyam was an orphan and spent his childhood
in the streets of Boudhanath in Kathmandu between 1992-95 before
we admitted him in our school. He was 13 years old when he came
into our school and studied here for 6 years before he joined
the carpentry training. He became exceptionally skillful in
the carpentry works. Quite recently, a small mud house and a
cornfield belonging to his grand-parents were damaged by the
landslides in Pharping, the vicinity of Kathmandu. He is now
helping them to rebuild these damages.
-
Ms
Phurbu Tsomo who comes from a very poor family was
admitted in our school in 1996. After studying VI class she
did tailoring training for 3 years. She is now married and lives
in Rasuwa village of Western Nepal. She is successfully pursuing
her tailoring profession and does brisk business there. She
is the main breadwinner of the family.

Ram
Maya in the picture (left) comes from a poor peasant
family of rural Makwanpur District with nine siblings. Except
her youngest brother none of them have any opportunity of
going to school. Since birth her left leg is totally crippled.
We have fitted her with an artificial leg after going through
a major surgical operation, last year, which has added a new
joy in her life and is now, able to walk without any support
system. She is one of the most talented trainees and completed her full training course by the spring 2005.
She went home and doing tailoring work in the village. |

During
the training period, they perform some very useful and productive
services by repairing the school furniture and fixtures, stitching
curtains and making and repairing school uniforms, repairing the
electrical fittings etc as part of their on the job training which
has double edged benefits.
We
had cases of 3 girl students failing to achieve their academic performances
beyond class IX despite their hard efforts. We sent two of them
to health worker’s training and one to beautician course.
